Heaven at 10000ft

Last weekend Connor, Christina and I went to Lake Tahoe for the first time - a real shame considering we have lived within a 3hr drive of this fantastic place for the last 6 years… and have had the opportunity to go every year with the company ski trip.

In the past, the trip has been to resorts in the North Tahoe area, but this year it was decided to go to The Ridge Tahoe resort, which is located on the mountain at Heavenly Ski Resort, in South Lake Tahoe.

The Ridge Resort

The condos have spectacular views of the valley and Carson, NV and are located at about 7400ft. Pretty damn nice…

Having not skied for over 15 years, I was a little concerned about getting my legs back (that, and the fact that the hill is mostly above 7500ft and up to 10000ft)… but I was amazed at how quickly it came back - even if I was exhausted half way through the day.

The weather and conditions were awesome, even if there was no new snow to ski on. Day time temperatures (even at the summit) reached nearly 50F, it was perfectly sunny, and the hills were not crowded at all. I had a great time skiiing, even if it was mostly on my own.

In addition, Connor took his first lessons and then joined me on the “bunny slope” for a couple of runs the next day. I cannot wait for us to do it again - exploring even more of the hill together.

Heavenly

On the Sunday, all of us went Ski-Doing on a 2hr tour. I had a Ski-Doo when I was a youngster - but I do not remember them being quite so powerful. In fact, in my day the largest engine one could get on a snowmobile was 440cc… and that could go 100mph… now you can get them with 1liter engines - it is no wonder people kill themselves on these machines. Chris had a great time and now wants to get a Ski-Doo of our own! They

    are

fun.

We had promised Connor that we would also go sledding or tubing on the Sunday… well, as it turns out, Sierra at Tahoe is on Highway US50, on the way home. We arrived there at 3:40pm, about 20 minutes before they closed. The people at the front were so nice that they gave us 1hr tubing passes… and we squeezed in 3 runs before they closed completely.

What a great weekend - can’t wait to do it again. Additional pictures can be found in the gallery.
